Seven SM Cinexlusive Movies Coming to you this October 2013

It’s officially the Halloween month but who says that the October must be all about fright fest?  SM Cinema has prepped up a good variety of films that you can enjoy if for the month of October. Those who are not fond of spooky films will enjoy a variety of Cinexclusive offerings this month while those who are into horror can still enjoy a number of scary selections exclusive to SM Cinema this month.

SM Cinexclusive starts of big in October 2 by screening exclusively the second instalment to the highly successful action film Machete by Robert Rodriguez with Machete Kills of the same director. The US Government hires Machete to help fight his way to Mexico to eradicate a group launching a dangerous weapon into space. The new film stars big Hollywood names such as Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Vanessa Hudgens and joining the cast is the biggest pop star to date, Lady Gaga.

Opening on the same day is the horror film BackMask starring Stephen Lang and Kevin Champan. During a night party fuelled by sex, drugs and overflowing alcohol, six teenagers finds a vintage tape and decides to play it backwards trying to check for any submliminal or satanic messages. Apparently, they have unleashed a malevolent spirit that quickly infiltrated the group and wreaked havoc while moving from one body to another. Eventually, it was revealed that the spirit was actually trying to convey an important message that the real danger is not caused by the paranormal incidents but by something closer to home. According to a study conducted by the University of Westminster, watching horror movies can help you burn up to 100 calories! Now on your next trip to your favourite SM Cinema branch, that’s not a bad reason why you should pick a BackMask over some movie with a sappy love story.

The third film to open on October 2 is a special treat for the Anime fans out there. It may be spook month but there will always be something for the anime fanatics out there with the opening of Gatchaman exclusively on all SM Cinemas nationwide.  Gatchaman is a Live action anime film which tells the story of five agents from the International Science Organization in Tokyo dubbed as Gatchaman whose job is to protect the world from a terrorist group called Galactor. With the kind of technology that exceeds that of humans, the Galactor has declared war against the world of humans and has even taken over half of it. Now, the future of humanity is in the hands of the Gatchaman.

On October 9, the Busan Film Festival critically acclaimed local indie film Alagwa opens in all SM Cinemas nationwide. The film is based on an urban legend in Chinatown about the disappearance of a Filipino-Chinese Boy. Robert Lim is a travelling salesman and a single father struggling to raise his child and put him to the best school. One day, he goes to the mall with his son. While wandering around the mall, his son suddenly disappears without any clue or trace. Through the surveillance video of the mall, the abduction of his son was revealed. There, Robert begins his search for his son.

Hard core rockers and avid fans of the biggest rock band Metallica will surely rejoice with the opening of Metallica: Through the Never on the same date. The film was written by the award winning Nimrad Antar and stars Metallica themselves, a thousand roaring Metallica fans and Dane DeHaan. The film is a combination of a live footage, editing techniques and a compelling narrative where a band crew member was sent to accomplish a mission during Metallica’s set in front of a sold out arena show.

While on his way to accomplish his mission, his life takes a 360 turn. The horror film Open Graves is set to open in October 9.  A man wakes up one day in the wilderness and in a pit full of dead bodies. He has no memory of how this whole gruesome incident happened. With no options left, he went on an exploration to determine who did the mass killing if it was the stranger who saved him or worse he himself.

This October 16, a heart-warming East Asian film Mr. Go is set to invade all SM Cinema branches nationwide. The story is about a young girl named Wei Wei and her bat swinging gorilla Ling Ling. After the death of Wei Wei’s great grandfather during the great Sichuan Earthquake, Wei Wei was left with a huge amount of debt. In order to pay off that debt, a loan shark threatened to sell Ling Ling. But since Wei Wei’s only family left was Ling Ling she was forced to allow the Korean Football club Doosan to scout Ling Ling. Not long enough, Ling Ling became a huge hit to football fans for his excellent single-handed swing which has scored the team a miraculous winning streak. Wei Wei and Doosan’s sports Agent Sung got so blinded by the success that they have totally forgotten about Ling Ling’s worsening knee injury.
